Hondo Carpenter, Sports Illustrated beat writer covering the Las Vegas Raiders, joined Whitey & Watkins Friday to talk about what he’s seen at the joint practices between Vegas and the San Francisco 49ers.
The two teams have practiced together heading into Sunday’s preseason game. And to Hondo’s surprise, Las Vegas looked more impressive.
“The Raiders won the first two days,” Hondo said, explaining he has no dog in the fight. “The Raiders were clearly the better team both days. Yesterday, the 49ers started better and the Raiders just put it on and came out strong and won it. And today, the 49ers were significantly more physical. In fact, the first play from scrimmage, Davante Adams went down. He got tagged and it was a very clean hit. Great hit. But the Raiders were the better football team… I think the Raiders yesterday smacked them in the face cause the Raiders are significantly more physical and I think it surprised them [the 49ers].”
Additional topics discussed include:
- Which team was more intense during joint practices?
- Maxx Crosby was the best player on the field between both teams
-
Robert Spillane has Crosby’s intensity
- The 49ers have their quarterback in Brock Purdy. “He’s clearly the better quarterback.”
