Mick Akers, reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, joined Cattles and Ramie to discuss the Oakland Athletics and the team’s latest binding agreement on a potential stadium deal.
On Monday, the A’s and Bally’s Corp. announced a formal agreement for a new baseball stadium along the Las Vegas Strip. However, the team has reportedly still not filed any paperwork with the state, with less than three weeks until the Nevada State Legislature adjourns.
“That’s what everyone’s waiting to see,” Akers said when asked about the public financing. “Indications are it’s supposed to happen sometime this week… So once this gets filed, we’ve been told it’s about a $395 million ask, down from the $500 million one they were going to have over at the Wild Wild West site. It’s still a pretty good chunk of change.”
Additional topics discussed include:
- Thoughts on the second binding agreement this year
- Is there interest in Sin City for the Athletics?
- The A’s and Bally’s Corp. project “2.5 million fans and visitors annually” for the proposed stadium that could seat roughly 30,000 fans. That’s projecting a sell-out for every game. Is that possible if the team relocates?
- Does Las Vegas care about John Fisher’s track record?
- Can the Oakland Athletics Triple-A facility house the team until the stadium is built?
