At a time when the San Francisco Giants needed to end the first half of the season with a series win, Logan Webb stepped up in a big way.
The Rocklin product twirled his first career complete game shutout during Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Colorado Rockies at Oracle Park, a victory that gave Webb and the Giants a series win for the first time since June 23-25th against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Webb went the distance without walking one batter, allowing seven hits while striking out ten batters over 103 pitches in front of 36,000 fans.

Following the game, Webb compared Oracle Park’s atmosphere to a postseason game as fans were energized for each out that the right-hander created.
“It was that loud after every strikeout or every out,” Webb said. “It’s a good feeling, so hopefully, I can get some more of those feelings and that same feeling in the playoffs.”
Once Webb worked his way through a 19-pitch first inning, he settled in to deliver one of–if not the greatest–performance of his young career.
Fellow Sacramento-area native J.D. Davis provided San Francisco with all the offense it would need with a solo home run during the fourth inning off Rockies starter Kyle Freeland. Once the Giants had a lead, Webb rolled to the finish line while racking up his fourth game with ten or more strikeouts this season.
“I don’t really know how to explain it,” Webb said of his effort. “Super excited I was able to do that, especially a 1-0 to win the game. Finish it off on a good note was good going into the break.”

Thanks to Webb’s performance, the Giants were able to get back on track heading into the All-Star break following a slide that saw San Francisco lose eight of 12 games.
All eyes will now shift to Tuesday’s mid-summer classic in Seattle as Camilo Doval, the Giants’ lone All-Star representative, will make his All-Star Game debut.
San Francisco will be back in action on Friday night in Pittsburgh where they will open up the final half of the season against a Pirates team that has lost seven of its past nine games.
