On Monday night, Logan Webb may have only pitched just under six innings, but he was able to keep Angels star Shohei Ohtani from having an amazing night. And in today’s game, that’s a success in and of itself.
The Giants took game one in the three-game series in Los Angeles. After the Giants’ 8-3 win, the Rocklin native took some time to praise his opponent, calling him, “the most talented baseball player of all time.”

“That guy is one of a kind,” Webb said. “He almost killed me in the sixth inning with that ball up the middle… I didn’t see the ball, I heard the ball. That’s when you know it was close.”
Shohei Ohtani smoked a grounder up the middle (106 mph EV) and turned it into a double with a 29.0 ft/sec sprint speed (30+ is elite).

Ohtani currently leads the league in home runs with 40 and is in the top five for runs batted in with 82.
“When you can keep him in the yard, I think it’s a good day, right,” Webb asked. “He’s a tough at-bat every time… There’s nothing really else I can say much about him other than he’s one of a kind, right? I’m happy he didn’t hit me in the face on that pitch, but also happy I didn’t give up three homers.”
Once this season comes to a close, Ohtani becomes a free agent. Is Logan Webb already starting his recruitment with some high praise of the two-way star?
