This week on The Carmichael Dave Show with JayMarzz, Senior Writer Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated joined the show to talk NBA Playoffs, Tyrese Haliburton and much more.
Interview with Chris Mannix begins at the 26:00 mark
The NBA announced the selections for the 2020-21 All-Rookie first and second team last week. Members of the national media submitted their votes for the teams, with 98 out of 99 journalists selecting Sacramento Kings rookie Tyrese Haliburton as a member of the first team.
Mannix was the lone member of the media to not select Haliburton to the first team–to the disdain of the Kings fanbase and even members of the team’s front office.
“It’s funny, I heard from (Carmichael Dave), I did hear from members of the Kings organization and certainly plenty of Kings fans on social media,” Mannix said on the response to his selection. “Let me say this first: the All-Rookie teams are my least favorite thing to vote for…because you just don’t get a true understanding of who is top five and who is second five based on one year. Some guys are on really good teams, that don’t post high numbers. Some guys are on bad teams that do post high numbers. I have a hard time sometimes sorting through that. More often than not, when I am voting for anything, not just rookies, I lean towards guys on winners. If a guy is putting up decent numbers on a winner, I naturally just gravitate towards that.”
Mannix also stated that durability played a factor, with Haliburton’s 58 games played coming in behind Charlotte’s Desmond Bane (68) and New York’s Immanuel Quickley (64).
Along with talking about Tyrese Haliburton, Mannix also expands on the talk of the NBA world this week: Will Ben Simmons be on the Philadelphia 76ers roster come next season?
