Matt Barnes, NBA analyst for NBC Sports and ESPN, joined Sactown Sports Wednesday afternoon to share stories about Kobe Bryant and talk about the Sacramento Kings offseason.

The guys spent a good amount of time talking about Kobe because Aug. 23, 2023, would have been his 45 years old. Barnes and Bryant had many matchups against each other before Bryant recruited Barnes to play for the Lakers in 2010.

Additional topics discussed include:

  • Favorite moments from his ALL THE SMOKE Podcast with Stephen Jackson
  • How Kobe Bryant inspired a generation of ball players
  • What did Kobe look for the most from his teammates?
  • The infamous moment when Matt is out of bounds and fakes a throw at Kobe’s face
  • How Sasha Vezenkov may struggle in his first year in the NBA
  • What would constitute a good to great season for the Sacramento Kings?
  • Another year of Mike Brown should only improve the team’s defense
  • Can we see an even better version of De’Aaron Fox this season?
  • Nerlens Noel could have “a big impact” with the Kings if he’s able to stay healthy
  • Best point guard of all time: Magic Johnson or Steph Curry?
