The Athletic’s Matt Barrows joined Cattles & Ramie Thursday to talk about the latest news and notes coming out of the San Francisco 49ers OTAs, including the health of quarterback Brock Purdy.

Purdy underwent off-season surgery on his throwing elbow in March after sustaining the injury in the NFC Championship loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. And just recently, the second-year quarterback has started throwing again. When asked about what he’s seen or heard in regard to Purdy’s rehab, Barrows said we should still wait and see how Purdy throws in a competitive manner.

“When he had that surgery on March 10, the 49ers had circled the first week in June, so I think it was the next week that they have circled for the first time that he picks up a football and throw a football,” Barrows said. “So he’s a little bit ahead of schedule in that regard. I think that’s what’s behind those encouraging words from [49ers general manager ] John Lynch that not only is he hitting all the marks so far, but he’s slightly ahead of the game a bit.”
