The Las Vegas Raiders nominated defensive end Maxx Crosby as their 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year.

All 32 teams nominate a player who “excel on the field and demonstrate a passion for creating a lasting positive impact beyond the game.” Winners will not be announced until Thursday, Feb. 8. All nominees will receive a $55,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

“The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award is the league’s most prestigious honor given annually to the player who best represents the greatness and compassion of Walter Payton on and off the field,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a press release. “These 32 outstanding men are making a valuable difference in their communities every day and we are proud to celebrate their special gifts and humanitarianism.”

As the Raiders’ nominee, Maxx Crosby will wear a special Walter Payton decal on his helmet for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.

“It is a true honor to be nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award,” Crosby said in a press release. “The Raiders’ have a strong commitment to the community, and I share those values, so I take great pride in being nominated for such a prestigious award. Thank you to the Raiders and congratulations to all the nominees.”

When he’s not on the field, the 26-year-old defender supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation, his alma mater, Eastern Michigan University, and participates in community events like Nevada Reading Week.
