Going into his third season with the Sacramento Kings, fresh off a three-year extension, head coach Mike Brown spoke with reporters at media day. Pretty quickly, in the conversations- after honoring the great Dikembe Mutombo- he mentioned that a guest had spoken in front of the team the previous day.

The first American to climb all 14 of the eight-thousander Mountains and the 5th person to do without supplemental oxygen, Ed Viesturs. He spoke about his journeys towards eventual victory atop a mountain.

Head coach Mike Brown explained the conversation in detail, as seen in the video below.

Across the front of his Kings-theme shirt, it reads ‘Climbing Together.’

“Having him come in and tell a story was fantastic. It was a great night,” Mike Brown said. “So, our theme right here is ‘Climbing Together.’ As you climb higher from your summer work to the preseason, to the regular season, to the playoffs. As you climb higher, the struggle gets harder, and you’ve got to be passionate about what would do with what’s in front of you.”

To put things into perspective for his team, he mentioned the risks Viesturs faced climbing the most dangerous mountain in the world, Annapurna, which is put in large letters on the back of his shirt.

Sacramento’s together climb starts tomorrow with training camp.
