Mike Fiers threw the second no-hitter of his career on Tuesday night, en route to a 2-0 win against the Cincinnati Reds.

Fiers struck out six and walked two on 131 pitches, 83 being strikes. He allowed only three base runners on the walks and an error in the third inning by Matt Chapman.

Fiers received two outstanding defensive plays in the sixth inning, allowing the no-hitter to continue. The first came on a pop-up from Kyle Farmer into shallow right field that Jurickson Profar had to dive to make the catch.

The very next pitch, Joey Votto drove a ball to deep center field but Ramon Laureano jumped at the fence to pull back the sure home run.

The no-hitter is the second in as many seasons for the A’s. Sean Manaea threw one last season against the Boston Red Sox.

Fiers’ first no-hitter came on August 21, 2015 against the Los Angeles Dodgers as a member of the Houston Astros. Fiers is now the fifth active player with multiple no-hitters. He also becomes the 30th pitcher in MLB history with multiple no-hitters. The no-hitter is also the 300th in baseball history and the first of the 2019 season.

The game was delayed for an hour and 38 minutes due to a lighting fixture malfunction prior to first pitch.
