Set to play their first season in California’s capital, the A’s have announced two new jersey patches they will wear for the upcoming 2025 season. One will represent their new (temporary) home in Sacramento, and another will honor the late, great Rickey Henderson.
The following is from the A’s Press Release:
Sacramento Jersey Patch
To commemorate the club’s inaugural season in our state’s capital region, the A’s will wear a newly designed sleeve patch featuring a depiction of the iconic Tower Bridge, which is located behind the ballpark in right field, as well as the word “Sacramento” in script, all in the team’s classic green and gold color scheme.
Rickey Henderson Jersey Patch
Raised in Oakland and drafted by the A’s, Rickey Henderson went on to become the greatest player in franchise history and one of the greatest leadoff hitters of all time. He played 14 of his 25 seasons in an A’s uniform and is baseball’s all-time leader in stolen bases (1,406) and runs scored (2,295). Henderson was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009 and had his number 24 retired by the A’s that year. To honor the greatest A’s player of all time, the team will wear a patch bearing Rickey’s iconic number 24 for the duration of the 2025 season.

In addition to those patches, the team announced that on January 22, “fans will have the chance to register for the opportunity to purchase tickets for Opening Day, March 31, and for the A’s three-game series against the San Francisco Giants, which takes place July 4-6.”
“This will be the first chance for the general public to secure seats for Opening Day and the Giants series, and registration does not guarantee a ticket. For more information and to register, fans should visit athletics.com/ticketopportunity.”
For the A’s opening day (March 31) matchup against the Chicago Cubs, all fans in attendance will receive a green-and-white trucker hat featuring the new Sacramento jersey patch and a Rickey Henderson rally towel.

Designated hitter Brent Rooker and the Athletics reached a five-year, $60 million contract extension, multiple media outlets reported.
The New York Post reported on Monday night that the deal includes a $10 million signing bonus and can be worth $92 million over six years provided incentives are reached.
Rooker, 30, struggled to find his footing with three different teams before joining the Athletics in 2023. He made the All-Star Game in that season while batting .246 with 30 homers and 69 RBIs in 137 games.
Rooker followed that up by hitting .293 with 39 homers and 112 RBIs in 145 games.
