Although they have switched course and are now racking up wins, the injury bug continues to bite the San Francisco Giants.
First baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday afternoon, and the team expects the 30-year-old to be sidelined for at least one month due to a grade 2 left hamstring.
Wade, who had been dealing with lingering hamstring soreness for a few days leading into Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, exacerbated the injury while stretching a hit into a double during the top of the fifth inning.
The Giants’ offense will feel Wade’s loss, especially his team-leading batting average (.333), on-base percentage (.470), and on-base plus slugging percentage (.896).

San Francisco manager Bob Melvin spoke highly of Wade and emphasized the loss the Giants will feel during his month-long absence.
“He’s as good a left-handed hitter as there is in the league right now,” Melvin said of Wade before Tuesday’s game against the Phillies. “Not only that, the flair for the dramatic, coming up in big spots, getting big hits, as we’ve seen here for a while now. That’s going to be tough to replace, but over the course of the season, you have to.”
San Francisco recalled minor leaguers Spencer Howard and Trenton Brooks to take Wade’s place on the roster. To create more space on the active roster, the Giants designated pitcher Drew Pomeranz and outfielder Ryan McKenna for assignment.
Melvin shared with media that he plans to slot Wilmer Flores at first base for the bulk of Wade’s time on the injured list, while adding that Brooks–a .308 hitter over 43 games with AAA Sacramento–will also get time at first.
