As the 2024 MLB trade deadline approaches, many will be watching the San Francisco Giants over the next 24+ hours.

The Giants (53-55) could sell before Tuesday’s 3 PM PDT deadline, and one MLB insider thinks a Blake Snell trade could be in San Francisco’s future.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported on Monday morning that he believes there is an “above 50% chance” that Snell will be moved before the deadline.

More on the Blake Snell trade report

“The Giants are certainly trending towards sell mode,” Morosi continued. “I look at Blake Snell as being, I think a better than 50 percent chance that he is somewhere else by [3 pm PDT on Tuesday].”

San Francisco has been in a slide for quite some time, having posted a record of 24-26 since the start of June. If not for their four-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies, the Giants would be even further into “sell” mode as the deadline nears, but a successful weekend at Oracle Park has raised questions about team president Farhan Zaidi’s thought process.

The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly recently reported that San Francisco is receiving plenty of interest regarding Snell’s availability, and the left-hander’s impressive career-high 15-strikeout performance on Saturday afternoon.

Snell, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, has looked like his normal self after two stints on the injured list and an overall rough start to the 2024 season. Over his last four starts, the southpaw holds an ERA of 0.75 while striking out 30 batters over 24.0 innings.

Money could be a factor in Zaidi’s decision to trade Snell, as the 31-year-old holds a $30 million player option for 2025 that will only add to an already bloated team payroll.

Will San Francisco’s four-game sweep of the lowly Rockies be enough to sway Zaidi to push forward with this roster, or will Snell (and others) be on the move? We’ll get answers to those questions by Tuesday evening.

What is the upcoming San Francisco Giants Schedule?
