Former San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford has announced his retirement from baseball.

The 37-year-old took to social media on Wednesday, where the three-time All-Star released a lengthy statement that acted as a farewell from his playing days on the diamond.

Crawford, a Bay Area native, grew up as a Giants fan who dreamed of playing shortstop for his hometown team.

Decades later, the two-time World Series champion has left a legacy in his wake with that very franchise, creating memories along the way for countless San Francisco fans.

The Giants will honor Brandon Crawford’s career on April 26th at Oracle Park when the team plays former manager Bruce Bochy’s Texas Rangers.

More on former Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford

Following 13 memorable seasons with his childhood team, the San Francisco Giants, Brandon Crawford entered uncharted waters this past offseason.

A forgettable 2023 season that saw the then-36-year-old shortstop hit .194 over 93 games would act as the end of the road for Crawford’s time in orange and black, as former Giants president Farhan Zaidi made it clear the franchise was looking at alternative solutions at the position.

Crawford inked a one-year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals before the 2024 season got underway, hitting .169 with one home run, four RBI, and five runs scored over 80 plate appearances–all career-lows.

St. Louis released Crawford in late August.

Although this may be the end of his playing career, Crawford has more than enough to be proud of as he moves into the next phase of his life–one that very well could include helping his old friend and current Giants president Buster Posey in San Francisco’s front office.

Here are some of Crawford’s career accomplishments:

  • 2x World Series champion (2012, 2014)
  • 3x MLB All-Star
  • 4x Gold Glove Award winner
  • 1x Silver Slugger Award winner
  • 147 HR
  • .249 AVG
  • 1,404 hits
  • 748 RBI
