Moments after the 2024 MLB trade deadline came to a close on Tuesday afternoon, the San Francisco Giants made one last roster upgrade.
According to Fansided’s Robert Murray, the Giants have acquired veteran outfielder and first baseman Mark Canha from the Detroit Tigers. The San Jose native will return to the Bay Area, where he spent the 2015-21 seasons with the Oakland Athletics.
Canha hit .231 with seven home runs and 38 RBI over 91 games with the Tigers this season.

More on Mark Canha & the Giants
It was an interesting deadline day for San Francisco.
The Giants started things off on Monday night by trading away designated hitter Jorge Soler to the Atlanta Braves in a money-saving move. Then, they turned around and dealt 2023 All-Star pitcher Alex Cobb to the Cleveland Guardians in the hours leading into the 3 pm PDT deadline.
Now, the addition of Canha adds depth to a San Francisco roster that is suddenly playoffs-or-bust after holding onto players like Matt Chapman and Blake Snell.
The Giants enter play on Tuesday sitting four games behind the third and final National League Wild Card spot. Do they have enough to scratch their way into the MLB Playoffs? We’re about to find out.
What is the upcoming San Francisco Giants Schedule?
