The San Francisco Giants placed left-hander Robbie Ray on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left hamstring strain and later added right-hander Jordan Hicks to the list because of right shoulder inflammation.

In corresponding moves, the Giants recalled right-handers Landen Roupp and Austin Warren from Triple-A Sacramento.

Ray, 32, was removed from Sunday’s road start against the Seattle Mariners in the fourth inning during an at-bat against Justin Turner.

“I think he caught it at the right time and didn’t try to push it, but hamstrings are hamstrings,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said Tuesday before the game against the host Milwaukee Brewers. “You’re probably looking at a minimum of a couple of weeks.”

In his first season with San Francisco, Ray is 3-2 with a 4.70 ERA in seven starts.

The 11-year veteran was an All-Star in 2017, when he went 15-5 with a 2.89 ERA for the Arizona Diamondbacks and was named the National League Cy Young Award winner. He won the American League Cy Young Award in 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays when he went 13-7 with a 2.84 ERA and 248 strikeouts.

Hicks, 27, last pitched on Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and two walks with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning in a 4-3 win over the Mariners. He is 4-7 with one save, a 3.90 ERA, 46 walks and 95 strikeouts in 108 1/3 innings over 28 games (20 starts).

He began the season as a starter with the Giants, who signed him to a four-year, $44 million contract in the offseason. Hicks was primarily a reliever earlier in his career an moved back to the bullpen this summer.

“He’s had some shoulder stuff going on,” Melvin said. “It just hasn’t really responded since he’s been in the bullpen. He’d pitch a game, and then the next day it’s a little stiff and (he’s) not available. It just got to a point where we need to get it right. It’s going to take an IL stint probably to get it completely right. Hopefully after that, he feels a lot better. He’s been kind of dealing with this for a little while now.”

Hicks is a career 15-28 with 33 saves and a 3.86 ERA in 240 games (28 starts) with the St. Louis Cardinals (2018-23), Toronto Blue Jays (2023) and Giants.

Roupp, 25, made his major league debut March 29 and is 0-0 with a 4.70 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Giants this season.

Warren, 28, has been in the Giants’ minor league system this season after playing parts of the previous three seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. He is 6-0 with one save and a 3.55 ERA in 32 relief appearances.
