The San Francisco Giants will be adding a Cy Young Award winner to its starting pitching staff in the coming days.

2021 American League Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray will make his 2024 season debut on Wednesday night in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. The left-hander hasn’t pitched in a major league game since March 31st of last year due to Tommy John surgery recovery, but it appears the rehab is finally over for Ray.

San Francisco will add Ray to a rotation that already includes 2023 National League Cy Young winner Blake Snell and runner-up Logan Webb, with All-Star right-hander Alex Cobb also due back in the coming days.

Ray will slot into the Giants’ rotation right in front of Webb, who will start San Francisco’s series finale against the Dodgers on Thursday.

More on SF Giants pitcher Robbie Ray

It was a successful rehab process for Ray, who dominated the minor league levels during his recovery.

In 10 combined appearances with the Rookie-Leve Giants, single-A San Jose Giants, and AAA Sacramento River Cats, Ray posted a record of 2-1, a 3.38 ERA, and 45 strikeouts over 29.1 innings.

Ray, who took home the 2021 American League Cy Young Award after posting a 13-7 record and 2.84 ERA while striking out a league-leading 248 batters with the Toronto Blue Jays, signed a five-year, $115 million deal with Seattle before the 2022 season.

During two seasons with the Mariners, Ray posted a 12-13 record and a 3.71 ERA, along with 215 strikeouts over 192.1 innings pitched (33 starts).

During the 2022 season, Ray became the second-fastest pitcher to 1,500 punch-outs (1,220.0 innings), only trailing San Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish (1,216.1 innings).
