Matt Chapman hit a three-run homer to help the visiting San Francisco Giants to a 4-1 win against the Washington Nationals on Monday evening in the opener of a four-game series.

Tyler Fitzgerald added a solo shot and Jerar Encarnacion contributed two hits for the Giants, who have won eight of their past 10. San Francisco starter Logan Webb (9-8) allowed one run and four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Webb was coming off his second major league shutout, recording it in a 1-0 win against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday. Nationals starter Patrick Corbin (2-12) allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings, striking out six and walking one.

Travis Blankenhorn had two hits for the Nationals, who have lost six of their past eight.

Fitzgerald homered for the second straight game, slamming the second pitch of the contest from Corbin over the bullpen in left-center field for a 1-0 lead. Fitzgerald has hit 11 of his 12 home runs this season in his past 17 games.

Mike Yastrzemski doubled to center to lead off the third inning for the Giants. After a two-out walk by Michael Conforto, Chapman hit a first-pitch slider over the fence in left for his three-run homer and a 4-0 lead.

Webb surrendered a two-out single to Blankenhorn in the second inning and pitched around a pair of walks in the fourth.

Jacob Young delivered a two-out double in the fifth, but Webb got CJ Abrams to fly out to end the inning.

Keibert Ruiz worked a 13-pitch walk in the sixth, took second on a balk and scored on a single to right-center field by James Wood to pull the Nationals within 4-1.

Blankenhorn followed with another single, ending Webb’s night.

Ryan Walker got the final out of the frame and then pitched a scoreless seventh for the Giants.

Both teams had runners on second and third with no outs in their respective halves of the eighth, but neither scored.

Camilo Doval struck out the side in the ninth for his 21st save of the year.
