A’s Injury Updates: Clarke mashing during rehab stint, Severino progressing

The Athletics provided injury updates on several players Monday, with the team continuing to navigate a lengthy list of injuries during another disappointing season.

The A’s are 30 games under .500 and en route to a sixth consecutive season without a postseason berth, with injuries to several key players contributing to their struggles.

Outfielder Denzel Clarke, who is on the 60-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, is continuing his rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. Clarke is 11-for-21 (.524) with two home runs and 6 RBI over eight games.

Meanwhile, right-hander Luis Severino is continuing a throwing progression and is now out to 90 feet as he works his way back from a right shoulder strain.

Catcher Shea Langeliers is also making progress after undergoing right knee surgery on July 28 to address a meniscus tear. He is rehabbing in Sacramento and has begun a hitting and throwing progression.

More Athletics Injury Updates

Infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer has started light, non-impact activities following surgery to repair a ruptured testicle, while left-hander José Suarez is scheduled to face live batting practice Tuesday as he works back from right hip discomfort.

There were also setbacks and significant updates elsewhere on the roster. Right-hander Brooks Kriske is scheduled to meet with Dr. Neal ElAttrache Monday after experiencing a setback in his throwing program due to a right shoulder impingement.

Shortstop Jacob Wilson, who is dealing with a left shoulder subluxation, will meet with Dr. Freehill Tuesday to review a follow-up MRI.

Several Athletics players will not return this season. Right-handers Gunnar Hoglund and Mark Leiter Jr., along with outfielders Brent Rooker and Tyler Soderstrom and right-hander Justin Sterner, are all out for the remainder of 2026 after undergoing surgeries.

Hoglund underwent left hip surgery in May, Leiter had surgery to repair a right hip labral tear in July, Rooker underwent surgery to address an articular cartilage tear in his left knee, Soderstrom had surgery Friday to repair a left hip labrum tear and FAI, and Sterner underwent surgery Aug. 13 to debride articular cartilage in his right knee.

Athletics All-Star first baseman Nick Kurtz also remains sidelined with a right thumb injury. He received a PRP injection Aug. 4 for a volar plate tear in his MCP joint and has not resumed baseball activities.
