Athletics Injury Updates: June 30, 2026

Outfielder Denzel Clarke continues to rehab in Sacramento after landing on the 60-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. Clarke has taken another step forward in his recovery, beginning running, throwing and swinging progressions as he works toward a return.

Right-hander Gunnar Hoglund remains out for the rest of the 2026 season following successful left hip surgery on May 19 in Vail, Colorado. Hoglund was placed on the 60-day injured list with a lumbar strain and left hip impingement before undergoing the procedure.

Reliever Brooks Kriske is continuing his throwing progression after being diagnosed with a posterior capsule sprain and internal impingement in his right shoulder. The Athletics have not announced a timetable for his return.

Veteran right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. is nearing another milestone in his rehab from a right hip impingement. Leiter is scheduled to throw a live bullpen session on Friday before another bullpen session in Sacramento on Saturday, signaling continued progress toward returning to the mound.

The Athletics also shared encouraging news on designated hitter Brent Rooker, who has started both running and swinging progressions while rehabbing in Sacramento. Rooker has been sidelined with a left knee bone bruise and appears to be advancing in his recovery.

Starting pitcher Luis Severino remains on the 60-day injured list as he continues rehabbing from a right shoulder strain. An MRI previously revealed injuries to the shoulder capsule and subscapularis muscle, and Severino received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection on June 4.

Two additional position players remain limited. Outfielder Tyler Soderstrom is still not participating in baseball activities as he recovers from a left hip impingement.

Meanwhile, infielder Jacob Wilson, who was placed on the IL this week, has yet to resume hitting because of ongoing inflammation in his right thumb.

While Hoglund has officially been ruled out for the remainder of the season, several other Athletics are beginning to increase their baseball activities.

The progress made by Clarke, Rooker and Leiter provides optimism that reinforcements could begin returning to the major league club in the coming weeks, though the organization has not established firm timelines for most of its injured players.
