Tyler Soderstrom: A’s want to make the playoffs in Sacramento

The Athletics’ strong start to the season has turned heads across baseball, but inside the clubhouse, the focus isn’t on future relocation plans or long-term uncertainty: it’s firmly rooted in the present.

More specifically, it’s rooted in Sacramento.

During a recent appearance on Sactown Sports’ The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross, Athletics outfielder Tyler Soderstrom made it clear that the team’s mindset is centered on winning now, right where they are.

While the A’s new billion-dollar ballpark is currently under construction in Las Vegas, Soderstrom says the team’s focus remains on the present in Sacramento, where the team is set to play through the end of the 2027 season.

“Everyone says, ‘Oh, you’re going to Vegas, be ready for Vegas in two years,’” Soderstrom said. “But that’s definitely not our mindset. Our mindset is we want to win in Sacramento this year. We want to get to the postseason in Sacramento this year.”

While outside narratives continue to focus on the franchise’s eventual move, A’s players are locked in on making the most of their time in Northern California’s capital.

Soderstrom emphasized that this approach isn’t just talk, it’s been a defining theme for the Athletics dating back to spring training.

“That’s been one of our big mottos going into the season, was we’re going to win this year in Sac,” he said.

For Sacramento fans, that message resonates. The idea of a contending Athletics team playing meaningful games deep into the season, and potentially into October, has energized the region. And according to Soderstrom, the appreciation goes both ways.

“We love Sac. Sac’s been great to us,” he said. “The work that they’ve done over at Sutter Health [Park] has been awesome. We have a great thing going on there.”

With the Athletics currently sitting atop the American League West, their performance is backing up their words. But beyond wins and losses, it’s the intentional embrace of Sacramento that stands out.

In a season filled with uncertainty about the future, the Athletics have found clarity in their purpose: win now, win here, and give Sacramento something worth celebrating.
