Giancarlo Stanton On Giants: ‘It Just Was Not A Great Fit’

OF Giancarlo Stanton officially inked his trade to the New York Yankees, the franchise reported Monday.

The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired outfielder Giancarlo Stanton and cash considerations from the Miami Marlins in exchange for second baseman Starlin Castro, minor league right-handed pitcher Jorge Guzman and minor league infielder Jose Devers.

In a press conference held for the four-time All-Star, Stanton was asked about the about the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals and why a trade between either team fell through.

“They were great people. They were great meetings. Great organization and culture there. But it just was not a great fit,” he said.

Stanton had a no-trade clause in his contract, with both St. Louis and San Francisco being among those no-no teams.

It took a lot of talking for the Giants to convince him to come to the West Coast, but it ultimately went nowhere when reports surfaced that he approved a trade to the Yankees.

Joel Wolfe, Stanton’s agent, claimed that Stanton wanted to win right now on a division-competing team and that he “wasn’t sure” the Giants or Cardinals were those teams, per Henry Schulman of the SF Chronicle.
