A’s nominate Tony Kemp for Roberto Clemente award

Tony Kemp has been named as the Oakland Athletics’ nominee for the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award.

All 30 teams nominate a player who “best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.”

In his partnership with Players for the Planet and One Tree Planted, Kemp “has pledged to plant 100 trees in urban communities for every stolen base and extra-base hit which he records throughout the season. To culminate the season-long initiative, Tony will participate in a community tree-planting event this September.”

This is Kemp’s fourth-straight season being named Oakland’s nominee for the award.

So far during the 2023 season, the 31-year-old utility-man has recorded a .308 on-base percentage with 26 RBIs, 70 hits, and four home runs. Kemp is currently in his fourth season with the A’s after being acquired before the 2020 campaign.
