San Francisco Giants trade OF Heliot Ramos to Yankees

The San Francisco Giants have traded homegrown talent Heliot Ramos to the New York Yankees for a pair of prospects.

The San Francisco Giants had a busy 2026 MLB trade deadline, including moving starting outfielder Heliot Ramos. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, “the New York Yankees are finalizing a deal to acquire outfielder Heliot Ramos from the San Francisco Giants.”

Ramos was a homegrown talent who had spent his entire career with the Giants since being drafted with the 19th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. Having dealt with plenty of movement throughout the minors, Ramos earned an All-Star appearance in 2024.

In 75 games played this season, Ramos had a .264 batting average, 9 home runs, 34 runs batted in, and a .723 OPS. The most notable of the now 26-year-olds ‘ 53 home runs with San Francisco was the moment he became the first right-handed batter to record a splash hit in McCovey Cove.

In exchange for Ramos, the Yankees are sending LHP Henry LaLane and SS Kaeden Kent. Kaeden is the son of Jeff Kent, who just went into the Hall of Fame as a San Francisco Giant. Kent was the No. 13 prospect in the Yankees’ system, but LaLane ranked notably higher at No. 5.

LaLane (22) is a 6’7 left-handed has been playing in A-ball since signing with New York out of the Dominican Republic in 2021. It’s more prospects being brought in on a day when the Giants traded away Luis Arraez, Robbie Ray, Tyler Mahle, and Caleb Kilian.

For the Yankees, Ramos should help their offense, as Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger are currently on the injured list. Given his defensive struggles in left field and Yankee Stadium’s demanding left side, it’ll be interesting to see how the New York staff finds a balance there.

San Francisco will be lacking some key pieces following the deadline, but their top paid players remain on the roster in Willy Adames, Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman, Logan Webb, and Jung Hoo-Lee.
