Monte McNair calls Zach LaVine a “gifted scorer” who can impact both ends

The De’Aaron Fox and Zach LaVine trade has become official as of Monday afternoon. The Sacramento Kings announced the completion of the deal, which included quotes from general manager Monte McNair on the recent roster subtractions and additions.
In a three-team deal that included the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls, the Kings acquired LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks, and three second-rounders in exchange for Fox, Kevin Huerter, and Jordan McLaughlin.
It’s the end of an era in Sacramento, with Fox departing after spending his first seven and a half seasons in California’s capital. McNair commented on what he’s meant to the organization while also expressing optimism about their updated longterm outlook.
“De’Aaron has played a pivotal role with our franchise, and we are deeply grateful for everything he did to support the organization on and off the court,” said General Manager Monte McNair. “We appreciate Kevin’s many contributions to the team, especially as a key member of the 2023 playoff team. We also thank Jordan for his hard work and commitment during his time with the Kings.”
“As we look to the future, I am excited to welcome Zach to Sacramento. He is a gifted scorer, and his athleticism will make an impact on both ends of the floor. We also look forward to Sidy joining the Kings.”
- Sacramento Kings Press Release (2/3/25)
In 42 games played with the Bulls this season, Zach LaVine is averaging 24 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on 51.1 percent from the field.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect for Sacramento, who ranks 34th in three-point percentage (34.5 percent) and attempts (36.1/g), is LaVine’s 38.7 percent career conversion rate from beyond the arc — and this year has been a career-best for him in that regard.
The 6’5 guard is knocking down 44.6 percent of his 7.2 three-point attempts per night. His addition should boslter their offense, but we’ll see what impact he can make on their 17th-ranked defense.
According to Chris Biderman of The Sacramento Bee, Zach LaVine is expected to make his NBA debut Wednesday as the Kings host the visiting Orlando Magic in front of what should be an interesting crowd in Golden 1 Center.
