As we inch closer to the 2024 NBA Draft, Carmichael Dave and Jason Ross are beginning to examine players who could be on the Sacramento Kings’ radar.

The Kings hold the 13th pick in the draft, meaning they could bring in a player to help the team from day one, whether by using the pick on a prospect or by moving the pick to upgrade the roster via trade.

For Sacramento, adding a floor-spacing forward or big should be on general manager Monte McNair’s to-do list, but that doesn’t mean he won’t pick the player he and the rest of the Kings’ front office believe to be the best available.

If Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Malik Monk departs in free agency, Sacramento will need a scoring punch off the bench. Could Duke guard Jared McCain be an ideal fit for this roster?

Plus, Dave wonders why Zach Edey, two-time College Player of the Year, isn’t higher on mock draft boards. That and more in the video below:

Zach Edey| C | Height: 7’5| Weight: 299 lbs | Age: 22 | Big Board: 35th

Stats: 39 games | 25.2 points | 12.2 rebounds | 2.0 assists | 2.2 blocks | 62% FG | 32.0 minutes

Jared McCain| PG/SG | Height: 6’3| Weight: 203 lbs | Age: 20 | Big Board: 17th

Stats: 36 games | 14.3 points | 5.0 rebounds | 1.9 assists | 1.1 steals | 46% FG | 41% 3PT | 31.6 minutes

Topics Discussed

  • McCain was born in Sacramento
  • Strengths: Great competitor and strong three-point shooter
  • Guard isn’t the Kings’ most-glaring need, but Monte McNair will always draft the best player available
  • Why isn’t Edey higher on mock draft boards?
  • Is Edey the most intriguing prospect in the 2024 NBA Draft?
  • What are the pros and cons in Edey’s game?
  • Is it more about what Edey can’t do than what he can do?
  • Will McCain be able to find his shot at the NBA level?
  • McCain is not a facilitating guard
  • Dave says he wants to see a De’Aaron Fox-Malik Monk starting backcourt

When is the next Sacramento Kings off-season date of interest?

The NBA Draft is now a two-night event.

Wednesday, June 26th, will act as the first night of the 2024 NBA Draft, where the Sacramento Kings will make their first-round selection (13th). The second round of the draft will be held on Thursday, June 27th, where the Kings will use its 45th overall pick.

Sacramento hasn’t had a first-round pick since 2022, when it selected Iowa product Keegan Murray with the fourth overall pick.
