Three-time consensus All-American Drew Timme joined Kevin “Whitey” Gleason and Kyle Draper — The Drive Guys — Tuesday afternoon to discuss his time with the Sacramento Kings Summer League squad, his NBA influences, said he’d “love to be back in Sacramento,” and more.
Fresh out of Gonzaga and into his first Summer League experience, Drew Timme played five games in Las Vegas, averaging 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on an impressive 63.2 percent from the field.
Throughout the California Classic tournament, he tallied 9.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists, and 1.3 steals in three games.
“I thought it was great,” Drew Timme said. “I like the system that they play in. I feel like it’s really good for a player like myself.” Led by Summer League head coach Doug Christie, who also went to college in the WCC, their squad played the same schemes as Sacramento’s main squad.
For moment, Timme was able to function as the Domantas Sabonis — fellow Gonzaga product — of the offense, orchestrating and rewarding cuts from the elbows.
He told The Drive Guys that his agency has been in talks with the Kings, “and if it works out, I’d love to be back there.”
With two remaining roster spots and seemingly a need for a third-string center, it’ll be interesting to see if general manager Monte McNair looks in the direction of Drew Timme. Plus, there’s always a potential opportunity on their G-League roster in Stockton.
When is the next Sacramento Kings offseason date of interest?
The dog days of the NBA offseason have arrived.
Sacramento will continue to look to add to its roster before players report for training camp at the end of September. The Kings currently have two open roster spots that general manager Monte McNair will have to fill in the coming weeks and months.
