Canada basketball continues to impress during the Group Play stage of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Toronto Raptors forward RJ Barrett led the way with 24 points, seven rebounds, and five assists during a 93-83 win over Australia on Tuesday in Paris, France. With the win, Canada improved to 2-0 as they jumped into lead position in Group A.
Sacramento Kings forward Trey Lyles added three points and one assist over seven minutes of play for Canada.
Lyles and former Kings associate head coach Jordi Fernandez–the head coach of Canada and recently-hired head coach of the Brooklyn Nets–will conclude its Group Play portion of its Olympics schedule on Friday, August 2nd against Spain (8:15 am PDT).
📌 RJ Barrett scored 24 points today (7 REB, 5 AST), only Steve Nash (26 PTS, 8 REB, 8 AST in 2000) scored more points among the Canadian 🇨🇦 players who had 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists in a game at the #Olympics.#Paris2024 x #Basketball pic.twitter.com/mo9RHxzAXf

More on Trey Lyles & Canada basketball at the 2024 Olympics
Lyles, 28, just put the finishing touches on another solid season for the Kings.
Over 58 games, the 6’9 forward averaged 7.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range.
The veteran will have plenty of competition in camp to make the Canadian team, as several NBA talents will look to secure spots on Fernández’s roster.
MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander highlights a talent pool that also includes Dillon Brooks, Kelly Olynyk, RJ Barrett, Lu Dort, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dwight Powell, and NBA champion guard Jamal Murray.
Canada brings the most current NBA players (10) of any country outside the US to the Olympics.
