Off-days are rare during the NBA season, but De’Aaron Fox used Tuesdays to provide 20 families from Opening Doors in Sacramento with Thanksgiving meal packages, including turkeys, sides, and additional swag provided by the Sacramento Kings.
The Foxes are big on holidays, and three years ago, they decided to work with Opening Doors to aid less fortunate families.
Opening Doors is a nonprofit that “stands with immigrants, refugees, and survivors of trafficking as they pursue their right to stability, self-sufficiency, and belonging.”
“For us, it’s about helping minority groups,” De’Aaron Fox said at the event. “Some of them are refugees, and being able to be in this country for however long that they’ve been here, some at the time were less than a year, we just want to be able to help people.”

As part of Raley’s 23rd Annual Season of Doing Good, each family was given nonperishable food items, $100 Raley’s gift cards, an entire Thanksgiving turkey, and some Kings’ related gear.
After receiving those items, they were able to take pictures with the Foxes, who kindly greeted each of them with a smile and a “Happy Thanksgiving.”

The videos linked show just a few of their various wholesome interactions, such as one kid commenting on De’Aaron Fox being shorter than he expected in person and them sharing a good laugh.
Or moments of reflecting on interactions from years prior that seemed to have left a lasting impact on their lives.
It was clear that De’Aaron, his wife Recee, and their two kids (Reign and Poppy) had grown familiar with these families throughout that time. “Being able to have that type of relationship and see people year in and year out is definitely a blessing for us,” Fox said. “We also hope that they feel great about being able to see us and see our kids grow the way that we’re seeing some of these kids grow.”

The Sacramento guard stayed afterward to sign any autographs that he was asked, including basketball, t-shirts, jerseys, trading cards, and more. He and his family understand how much the community has embraced him since he was drafted in 2017, and they strive to return the favor.
“The Sacramento community, for us, is extremely important,” De’Aaron Fox said. “We love the support that they give us, and we try to give that same type of support back. We make enough money to be able to help people and change the community, so we do as much as we can.”
“We just love being able to help people who are more unfortunate than us and just try to make their holidays a little bit better,” he continued.
They’ve been hosting a similar event for Christmas and plan to continue those efforts this December. His teammates, Domantas Sabonis and Devin Carter, organized various Thanksgiving community events around Sacramento and its surrounding cities on the same day.
The community is lucky to have such kind and good-spirited people that want to give back year round, but especially during the holidays.
