Domantas Sabonis, amid the best season of his NBA career, had his jersey retired by his college alum Friday afternoon.
He’s the sixth player in Gonzaga’s history to have their number retired, joining rank Burgess, John Stockton, Adam Morrison, Kelly Olynyk, and Dan Dickau.
Per Gonzaga’s press release on their retiring of the number 11, which Domantas Sabonis wore at Gonzaga:
Sabonis remains Gonzaga’s all-time leader in career field goal percentage at .632. In just two seasons, he scored 1,002 points to become the 41st player in school history to score 1,000 points. He also grabbed 694 rebounds, which is 11th all-time at GU.
An AP Honorable Mention All-American and NCAA All-Tournament Midwest Region selection, Sabonis capped his fantastic season helping the Zags reach the Sweet 16 in 2016. Off the court, he was named a CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American, CoSIDA Academic All-District first-teamer and a WCC All-Academic first-teamer.
Sabonis, who also earned All-West Coast Conference and NABC All-District First Team honors, averaged 17.6 points per game in 2015-16, and led the WCC with 11.8 rebounds per game (No. 6 nationally) and 23 double-doubles (No. 5 nationally). He ranked second in the league with a .611 field goal percentage. Sabonis scored in double figures 32 times and had 20-plus in 12 of those contests.
In the NCAA Tournament, Sabonis helped Gonzaga reach a Sweet 16 in each of his two seasons with an Elite 8 appearance in 2015. In the three 2016 NCAA Tournament games, he averaged 19.7 points and 14.3 rebounds, the highest rebounding average of any player that appeared in at least two games.
Sabonis missed Sacramento’s team practice Friday to attend the ceremony but rejoined the team for their 123-100 home win over the Washington Wizards on Sunday night.
The three-time All-Star recorded a game-high 29 points and a game-high 18 rebounds and was asked postgame if Friday’s jersey retirement factored into his stellar performance.
“You know I’m going to come out and fight every game, but it was awesome,” Domantas Sabonis said postgame. “A lot of great emotions. I saw a lot of people that I love. So, it was definitely a great day.”

He’s averaging 20.8 points, 14.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists on 60.5/48.4/76.7 shooting splits in 2024-25 — his rebounding total and three-point percentage are both career-highs and a current league-best across the NBA as a whole.
Winners of nine of their last 10, the Kings are continuing to climb the Western Conference standings under interim head coach Doug Christie with the effort of Sabonis, De’Aaron Fox, DeMar DeRozan, and the rest of the squad.
