Decision time has arrived for the Sacramento Kings.
Sacramento holds the 13th pick in tonight’s 2024 NBA Draft, which includes a player pool that many draft experts have projected as a weaker class. Disappointing class or not, the Kings are in a position to add to a roster that has remained largely intact since July 2022.
The possibilities of using the pick on a prospect or packaging it in a deal to acquire veteran talent are both on the table for general manager Monte McNair.
If Sacramento holds into the pick, which players could be on their radar? Let’s take one last look at some projections from draft analysts around the basketball world.
NBA Mock Draft Roundup: Sacramento Kings 13th pick
ESPN – G-League forward Ron Holland
This pick has been mentioned for some time as being potentially attainable, which makes sense considering the urgency that’s likely in place for a Kings team eager to return to the playoffs.
Retaining Malik Monk was a major step in that direction, alleviating the need for them to target a shooter (such as Jared McCain) with this pick, should they keep it, and maybe allowing them to take a flier on a high-upside prospect such as Holland, who was projected to be picked much higher than this before an inefficient season with the G League Ignite damaged his standing.
Older players such as Ja’Kobe Walter, Devin Carter and Johnny Furphy also are said to be getting some consideration with this pick.
ESPN’s Jonathan Givoney – June 26, 2024
CBS Sports – Baylor guard Ja’Kobe Walter
Walter showed all the tools that made him a five-star prospect during his one season at Baylor. He has the array of athleticism and quick-trigger shooting to make for an easy NBA projection. He’ll need to improve his shooting and touch overall, but at 19 years old with his track record as a gunner, I’d buy into him here at the back of the lottery.
CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone – June 25, 2024
The Athletic – Providence guard Devin Carter
League sources believe the Kings want to accentuate their readymade core with other players who can help them win now. They fell to 46 wins this season after winning 48 and establishing themselves as a team to reckon with in 2022-23. However, the Western Conference got better around them, and the Kings don’t want to stay in the play-in position they found themselves in following that breakout season. That thought process could result in this pick being available for the right veteran.
The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie – June 25, 2024
Yahoo! Sports – Colorado forward Tristan da Silva
The Colorado forward was one of the best hybrid frontcourt players in the Pac-12 this year. Da Silva can be slotted into the lineup right away and add some versatility and length to any roster. The Kings just extended Malik Monk’s contract and could be targeting a player like da Silva inside the lottery who can play inside-out.
Yahoo! Sports’ Krysten Peek – June 26, 2024
Bleacher Report – Purdue center Zach Edey
When is the next NBA off-season date of interest?
The NBA Draft is now a two-night event.
Wednesday, June 26th, will act as the first night of the 2024 NBA Draft, where the Sacramento Kings will make their first-round selection (13th). The second round of the draft will be held on Thursday, June 27th, where the Kings will use its 45th overall pick.
Sacramento hasn’t had a first-round pick since 2022, when it selected Iowa product Keegan Murray with the fourth overall pick.
