With their Las Vegas Summer League experience all but officially concluded, the Sacramento Kings had interesting prospects on their roster that could make their way to Stockton; USC’s Boogie Ellis and Gonzaga’s Drew Timme.
Head coach Doug Christie was often complimentary of the energy Ellis provided anytime he checked into the game.
“Whenever I get the opportunity, the work’s already been put in, so I’m going to perform every time,” Boogie Ellis said. “As long as I get my opportunity, I’m going to continue to do great things and continue to just build on what I’ve building on.”
His confidence radiates in the above interview, in a way that made me encouraged about his potential in the NBA, even if that may start in the G-League.
Meanwhile, three-time consensus All-American big man Drew Timme functioned as the Domantas Sabonis of the roster offensively. With his skillset, he helped the team be able to run a similar offense to Sacramento’s main squad with a big playmaking from the elbow extended, rewarding off-ball cutting and movement in general.
After falling down early against the second-overall pick Alex Sarr and the Washington Wizards, Sacramento nearly mounted a comeback.
“That’s just what I do, man,” Timme said. “We’re trying to make a comeback so just kind of trying to take that pressure off, smile and laugh a little bit and just know we’re just playing a game. I think that helps, so I try to help in any way I can.”
There is no current status on Ellis’s and Timme’s NBA futures, but both seem to make sense in the Kings G-League system in Stockton and could have the potential to climb the ranks from there.
