The 2024 NBA Draft lottery is set to take place at noon PST on Sunday, May 12th, where the Sacramento Kings own a lottery selection. Their 2024 first-rounder was owed to Atlanta from the Kevin Huerter trade but contained top-fourteen protections, which ultimately fell within the restrictions after their play-in loss to New Orleans.

On Friday, James Ham of The Kings Beat reported that Keegan Murray will represent the Kings at this weekend’s lottery in Chicago. Ironically, in the 2022 Draft, Sacramento came into the night with the seventh-best odds and was fortunate to jump into the top four.

That stroke of luck allowed them to select Keegan Murray in the first place. Maybe the hope now is that the result of prior luck can become the source this time.

Sacramento has slimmer odds this year (3.8 percent), but crazy occurrences seem somewhat common in the chaotic world of the NBA. Not only would jumping in the draft allow for higher-caliber prospects to be selected, but it would also be a substantially more valuable trade asset.

Maybe Keegan Murray can help bring the Sacramento Kings some lottery luck in 2024’s edition on Sunday.

When is the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery?

The 2024 NBA Draft Lottery will be held in Chicago, Illinois, on Sunday, May 12 (12 p.m. PT on ABC).

Which teams will participate in the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery?

The 14 teams that missed out on the NBA playoffs are eligible for the Draft Lottery. The final odds were determined after the regular season, and tie breaks were settled between teams with identical regular season records.

What is the format?

Per NBA.com

The NBA Board of Governors approved changes to the lottery system on Sept. 28, 2017. Under the revamped format (which began with the 2019 Draft), the NBA Draft Lottery will ensure that the team with the worst record will receive no worse than the fifth pick. Under the pre-2019 system, the team with the worst record would pick no lower than fourth.

The new system will level the odds at the top of the NBA Draft Lottery so that the teams with the three worst regular-season records will each have a 14 percent chance of winning the lottery. In the pre-2019 structure, the top seed had a 25 percent of winning the lottery, the second seed had a 19.9 percent and the third seed had a 15.6 percent.

After drawings are conducted for the first four picks of the NBA Draft, the other lottery teams will continue to pick in inverse order of their regular-season record.

Where do the Kings stand?
