There have been whispers–and reports–that Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown is looking to secure an extension this summer.
Brown, who is entering the final guaranteed season of his four-year deal (mutual option for 2025-26), is reportedly hoping for a multi-year extension with an average annual value of around $10 million.
According to a report issued by Sactown Sports’ Carmichael Dave on Thursday morning, an extension for Brown appears “imminent,” and it seems the deal is a matter of “when, not if.”
On the Mike Brown front, all signs pointing to an imminent extension.
Likely 3 years in the 9-11 per range.
Am told it’s more of a “when” not if.

Head coaches around the NBA have been receiving larger pay-days, with Detroit Pistons head coach and 2021-22 NBA Coach of the Year Award winner Monty Williams ($78.5 million over six years) and two-time Coach of the Year winner Mike Budenholzer ($50 million over five years with the Phoenix Suns) inking big deals in recent memory.
Brown, a fellow two-time Coach of the Year Award winner (unanimously in 2022-23 with Sacramento), is next in line for a pay raise.
Shortly following Dave’s report, The Athletic’s Sam Amick joined The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross to discuss the likelihood that Brown and the Kings will reach an agreement on an extension.
Plus: Sam and Dave look around the league as head coaching openings in Cleveland and Los Angeles will take center stage in the coming weeks.
