Previous Sacramento Kings lead assistant Jordi Fernandez took the head coaching job in Brooklyn and brought a pair of their player development coaches with him: Deividas Dulkys and Dutch Gaitley. More recently, Stockton’s head coach and reigning G-League Coach of the Year is teaming up with JJ Redick in Los Angeles. That’s left Mike Brown with shoes to fill on his staff heading into 2045-25.
At the Las Vegas Summer League, Brown shared, “It’s a dream on the one hand, a little bit of a nightmare on the other” to see so many of his staffers get hired elsewhere.
“I’d rather take the dream part of it, though, because that’s what this is all about,” he said. I was once an intern. I was once a video coordinator. I was once a player development guy. I was once an assistant coach and you want opportunities to grow and you want to be around, hopefully, good organizations to get the opportunity… it speaks volumes of what we’re trying to accomplish as a staff, organization, and as a team…”
With still plenty remaining, including Jay Triano, Luke Loucks, Doug Christie, Leandro Barbosa, and others, Sacramento’s head coach said he “moved a lot of guys up” in response to the recent departures. Plans to look externally have already begun as well.
“I’m a pretty, I guess, slow guy when it comes to that,” Mike Brown said. “I’m a pretty patient guy when it comes to that. So, I’ve been meeting people down here in Vegas during the Summer League. I’ve been meeting with people back in Sacramento.
“When the time’s right, we’ll make a hire, and we feel confident that there’ll be good coaches that will come in and do just as good of a job as the coaches that have left.”
When is the next Sacramento Kings offseason date of interest?
The dog days of the NBA offseason have arrived.
Sacramento will continue to look to add to its roster before players report for training camp at the end of September. The Kings currently have two open roster spots that general manager Monte McNair will have to fill in the coming weeks and months.
