The 2024 NBA Draft is less than one week away, meaning it’s almost decision time for the Sacramento Kings.
Sacramento holds the 13th pick in June 26th’s 2024 NBA Draft, which includes a player pool that many draft experts have projected as a weaker class. Disappointing class or not, the Kings are in a position to add to a roster that has remained largely intact since July 2022.
The possibilities of using the pick on a prospect or packaging it in a deal to acquire veteran talent are both on the table for general manager Monte McNair.
If Sacramento holds into the pick, which players could be on their radar? Let’s look around at some projections from draft analysts around the basketball world.
NBA Mock Draft Roundup: Sacramento Kings 13th pick
ESPN – G-League forward Ron Holland
Sacramento has explored trade options with this pick, but there will be a range of quality players on the board if the Kings stand pat — they might be content to simply see who falls to No. 13. Holland has worked out for a wide range of teams, from Atlanta at No. 1 down to the Heat at No. 15, and it’s still not quite clear where his backstop lies.
Presuming the Kings are on track to retain Malik Monk and maintain their backcourt, taking a swing on a wing such as Holland or a frontcourt player could be a smart direction.
Landing on a Sacramento team with established talent and roles, which won’t ask Holland to be an offensive focal point, could be ideal long term for his game. That move would allow Holland to get back to his roots as a tough defender and high-energy contributor.
ESPN’s Jeremy Woo – June 20, 2024
CBS Sports – Baylor guard Ja’Kobe Walter
I’m personally higher on Walter than the majority — but indications are that he’s now mostly considered a borderline lottery pick as opposed to the likely top-10 pick he projected as before his first and only season at Baylor. With Malik Monk headed for unrestricted free agency and possibly to another franchise, adding a guard with size who can shoot would be a sensible move for Sacramento.
CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish – June 17, 2024
Bleacher Report – Indiana center Kel’el Ware
An impressive pro day of shooting has had teams buzzing about Kel’el Ware. Sources say he’s generating realistic consideration in the late lottery.
The narrative about his underwhelming motor has seemingly been squashed.
Ware figures to look highly enticing in a workout setting that can showcase his athleticism at the rim, mobility and high shotmaking skill level.
Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman – June 19, 2024
The Ringer – Serbian forward Nikola Topić
The Kings already have De’Aaron Fox. But Topic’s size could allow him to share the backcourt with Fox in the years to come. Topic can attack downhill and is a willing playmaker who’d thrive in a multi-handler offense as long as his shot successfully develops.
The Ringer’s Kevin O’Conner – June 20, 2024
USA Today – Providence guard Devin Carter
Strong, physical guard who can score from multiple spots on the court and will post-up smaller guards. Provides outstanding rebounding and shot-blocking from his position. Son of former NBA guard Anthony Carter.
USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt – June 20, 2024
NBADraft.net – Baylor guard Ja’Kobe Walter
Walter is a sleek 6’5 195 swingman who has solid length and adequate athleticism on the wing, as well as the frame to put on more muscle … At 6’5 with a 6’10 wingspan, he has a solid frame as a NBA 2-guard … Jump shot is his bread and butter offensively; shows good confidence, range and is not bashful about letting it fly (6.3 3FGA/G) … Can make shots in bunches; had 8 games with 4+ made 3-pointers as a Fr (14.5 PPG).
