When Pascal Siakam, then a member of the Toronto Raptors, was clearly on the trade block during the season, the Sacramento Kings seemed like a prime candidate to acquire the versatile forward.
Then, with Siakam and the Raptors warming up for that night’s matchup in Golden 1 Center, a report came out that the Kings and Raptors had stalled conversations. Before the deadline, the Indiana Pacers agreed to a move for the former NBA Champion.
The Athletic’s Sam Amick shared new details on what may have quieted the Pascal Siakam to Sacramento talks.
“For better or for worse, on the Siakam side, there were imprints from his camp that over the years — and I don’t know form this took — but that there were, behind the scenes, somewhat disparaging remarks made that came from the Kings about his game,” Amick said.
“The way it was framed to me was that in an attempt to drive down what it would take to get him, some gossipy-type feedback on his game had gotten back to him.”
Negotiations are a large part of the NBA. As you hear so often, this league is a business, but sometimes, that can cause complications, as it appears to have done in this situation with Pascal Siakam.
When is the next NBA off-season date of interest?
