Four coaches, whether they were assistants to Mike Brown, trainers, or G-League head coaches, have left the Sacramento Kings for more extensive opportunities. In an effort to fill some of those voids, the Kings are bringing in Portland’s G-League (Rip City Remix) head coach Jim Moran as an assistant, per FOX 40’s Sean Cunningham.

When speaking with Coach Brown in Las Vegas, he explained the dream fulfilled of his staffers getting opportunities while also recognizing the nightmares of replacing them.

“I’ve been meeting people down here in Vegas during the Summer League. I’ve been meeting with people back in Sacramento,” he said. “When the time’s right, we’ll make a hire, and we feel confident that there’ll be good coaches that will come in and do just as good of a job as the coaches that have left.”

Seems like the time was right for Jim Moran. Having started his coaching career as a player development coach on the Maine Red Claws, he landed his first NBA spot with the Trail Blazers in 2014, remaining and internally promoted to an assistant coach for a year before heading to Monte Williams’ staff in Detroit.

He returned to the Northwest in 2024 to coach the Blazers’ inaugural G-League season with the Rip City Remix. Now, the next chapter for Jim Moran will be in California’s capital.

When is the next Sacramento Kings offseason date of interest?

The dog days of the NBA offseason have arrived.

Sacramento will continue to look to add to its roster before players report for training camp at the end of September. The Kings currently have two open roster spots that general manager Monte McNair will have to fill in the coming weeks and months.
