Sacramento Kings’ fans will have to wait a bit to see their first-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Providence’s Devin Carter, suit up in royal purple.

According to FOX 40’s Sean Cunningham, Carter will not participate in Summer League due to a left shoulder strain.

At Tuesday’s press conference, Kings’ general manager shed some light on the injury. “Obviously, something we knew about,” he said.

“We’re going to meet with the doctors this week and see what the best course of action is,” McNair continued. “But, I know long term we’re very positive on Devin’s outlook and we’ll just see what happens in the short term.”

Sactown Sports confirmed with Cunningham that Carter will miss the 2024 California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League tournaments.

As a 22-year-old versatile impact player, Devin Carter could have performed well in those opportunities, but the preseason will have to serve its purpose for the rookie.

When is the next NBA off-season date of interest?

Now that the NBA Draft is in the rearview, all eyes will shift to the start of free agency.

All 30 teams will be able to negotiate free-agent deals with players beginning this Sunday, June 30th, at 3:00 PM PDT.

Sacramento already did some heavy lifting by agreeing to a four-year, $78 million deal with Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Malik Monk, as the two sides agreed on a long-term contract last weekend.
