When the Sacramento Kings selected Providence rookie Devin Carter with the 13th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, it didn’t take long for the news to hit that the rookie would require surgery on his left shoulder.

Today, the team announced that he underwent a successful procedure to repair a torn labrum on his left shoulder. According to the release, “Carter will begin the rehabilitation process and is expected to make a full recovery. A medical update will be provided in approximately six months.”

Six months from today is early January, when NBA teams have typically completed roughly one-third of their 82-game regular season.

With a handful of capable guards on the current roster between De’Aaron Fox, DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk, Keon Ellis, Kevin Huerter, and Colby Jones, Sacramento should be able to weather his absence.

Still, it’s an unfortunate beginning to the rookie campaign of Devin Carter. Sacramento fans will have to wait a bit longer than expected to see their latest lottery selection suit up in royal purple.

When is the next Sacramento Kings off-season date of interest?

Now that the 2024 California Classic is over, Sacramento will head to Las Vegas for the NBA 2K25 Summer League.

The Kings will play their first of five games on Friday afternoon against the top-ten pick Zach Edey and the Memphis Grizzlies with action set to tip off at 3:00 PM PDT.
