Skal Labissiere signs Exhibit 10 deal to return to Stockton Kings

A familiar face will be returning to the Sacramento Kings organization this season.

After spending the 2023-24 season with the G-League’s Stockton Kings, big man Skal Labissiere has signed an Exhibit 10 contract to return to the 209 for the 2024-25 campaign.

FOX 40’s Sean Cunningham was the first to report the Kings’ deal with Labissiere.

Over 14 games with Stockton during the 2023-24 season, the big man averaged 7.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game on 48% FG and 44% 3PT.

Labissiere, 28, was the 28th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. The Kentucky product spent nearly three seasons in Sacramento, averaging 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game over 106 appearances from 2016-2019.

The 6’10 big spent time with the Portland Trail Blazers before playing in Puerto Rico and Mexico during the 2022-23 season.

What is an Exhibit 10 contract?

The Exhibit 10 contract was introduced in the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum salary agreement that isn’t guaranteed. It can also include an optional bonus of up to $75,000 that will be rewarded if a player, after he’s waived, spends at least 60 days with a team’s G League affiliate.

This makes the Exhibit 10 contract a helpful tool to bring in players to compete during Summer League for a roster spot on an NBA team or its G League affiliate. Each team can have up to six Exhibit 10 contracts at a time.

An Exhibit 10 contract can then be converted into a two-way contract, which would also make the bonus money guaranteed. Each team can have a maximum of three two-way contracts, and this conversion must be done prior to the start of the regular season.

If a player on an Exhibit 10 contract is kept on the 15-man roster past the start of the regular season, his contract becomes a standard minimum deal. This is the only time it’ll have an impact on the team’s salary cap, since Exhibit 10 and two-way contracts don’t count.

The dog days of the NBA offseason have arrived.

Sacramento will continue to look to add to its roster before players report for training camp at the end of September. The Kings currently have some open roster spots that general manager Monte McNair will have to fill in the coming weeks and months.
