Has Scott Perry’s next free agent target been revealed?
Cason Wallace could draw offers above $30 million annually if he reaches restricted free agency. Could Scott Perry & the Kings pursue the guard?
Watch: Has Kings GM Scott Perry's Next Free Agent Target Been Revealed | 5 mins
The Sacramento Kings may have another restricted free agent to watch next summer: Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cason Wallace.
Sactown Sports’ Matt George and Kayla Anderson discussed whether Kings general manager Scott Perry might pursue Wallace after coming up short on past targets Jonathan Kuminga and Jalen Duren.
The idea is still speculative. No report links Sacramento to Wallace, but a potential market above $30 million annually could make him one of the offseason’s most intriguing names.
ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported that at least two teams would be prepared to offer Wallace more than $30 million per year if he reaches restricted free agency.
Wallace and Oklahoma City have until Oct. 19 to agree on a rookie-scale extension. If they don’t, he’ll play the final season of his rookie contract before becoming a restricted free agent in 2027. The Thunder would have the right to match an offer sheet.
George joked about Perry’s history of pursuing restricted free agents: “Summer number one, Jonathan Kuminga, restricted free agent. Yoo-hoo! Let’s flirt. Summer number two, Jalen Duren, restricted free agent. Let’s flirt. He’s 0-for-two.”
Wallace could give Perry another chance to test the market. As George pointed out, the Kings may have more room to make an offer next summer than they did in their earlier pursuits.
Zach LaVine ($49 million) and De’Andre Hunter ($24 million) are set to enter free agency at the end of this season, giving Perry financial flexibility as he looks to rebuild this roster.

More on Cason Wallace
But the report about teams willing to offer Cason Wallace more than $30 million does not identify Sacramento as one of them.
The basketball fit is easy to understand. Wallace is a 6-foot-3 guard whose calling card is defense, particularly against the ball handler. George described him as “a true blue shooting guard” who “defends the crap out of the ball.”
Wallace has also already played a meaningful role on a championship team in Oklahoma City.
Wallace’s offense is still developing. He averaged 8.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 77 games last season, including 58 starts. He shot 35.1% from three in 2025-26 and is at 37.4% for his career.
He finished seventh in Defensive Player of the Year voting and made the All-Defensive Second Team.
Anderson raised the question of whether Sacramento needs a player with a similar profile to Keon Ellis. George agreed it was a fair comparison, but noted Wallace has played an important role on a title-winning team.
Ellis is now with Brooklyn, leaving the Kings to consider Wallace’s potential alongside the cost of signing him.

And the cost could be steep. “If it takes $30 million a year to pry Cason Wallace away from the Oklahoma City Thunder,” George said, “I’m not saying the Kings would do it today.”
A deal at that level would ask Wallace to contribute more offensively than he has so far. A larger role in Sacramento could give him that chance, but it would also put more weight on his ability to create and score.
For now, Wallace is a name to monitor rather than a reported Kings target. As George put it, “Just a name to keep an eye on this season.”
Whether Perry makes another run at a restricted free agent will depend on Wallace’s development, Sacramento’s plans and the price it would take to make Oklahoma City think twice.
