CD: There’s Nothing To See Here

There I was, enjoying a nice evening of Kings  basketball (actually they were getting beat but still), and all of a sudden it comes across my twitter timeline:

Oh COME ON….

Let me be clear, I have a lot of respect for Chris Haynes, and I don’t think he fabricated any of this.

But I’m also not worried.

Obviously someone was talking and explaining what their feelings were, and those feeling are waaaaay off.

Here are things that can all be true:

1. Some players are upset about playing time
2. People around those players (agents, family, etc) are upset about playing time
3. Someone in the front office is upset about a certain player’s playing time
4. None of it matters in the big scheme

This stuff happens in almost EVERY locker room, in and out. Not everyone can play the minutes they want on a team. They grouse to those around them. Smart reporters talk to these people

Also, many times there can be disagreements within  an organization about playing time, rotations, etc. Just like I have disagreements with my wife about how to discipline our kids.

We work it out.

Doesn’t mean we are getting a divorce.

Sounds to me like someone or someone(s) decided to loosen their lips a little bit, talk to a reporter, and give them a great headline. Something like

“Yeah, X or Y needs to play more. We want him to play more. And if that doesn’t start happening, we may need to move on”

BOOM.

Here’s what I know:

Dave Joerger and his staff have done an amazing job.

The Kings  are overachieving.

Ownership is solidly behind their coach.

So is Vlade Divac.

And that’s really all that matters.

I can’t speak to the offseason or next year, and I’m sure there are things the front office and coaching staff genuinely disagree on. But that doesn’t mean jobs are in jeopardy.

The only job that should be in jeopardy is that of the person doing the talking. This franchise has done way too much to stabilize things, and for the first time in seemingly forever- the Kings    are surprising people. The fans deserve better than to have some knee-jerk fan PTSD pop up when they least expect it.

Its already going to be a challenging month on the floor. Now someone decided to make it challenging off the floor as well, for a completely unnecessary reason.
