De’Aaron Fox reacts to NBA approving flopping rule

Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox was none too pleased with the announcement of a rule change Tuesday night.

According to a press release from the league, the NBA’s Board of Governors approved in-game flopping penalties and the expanded use of the coach’s challenge. Both rule changes will go into effect with the 2023-24 season.

Players could be penalized if an official believes they flopped.

“If a flopping penalty is assessed by game officials, the opposing team will be awarded one free throw,” the league’s rules states. “A player who commits a flop will be assessed a non-unsportsmanlike technical foul, which does not count as a personal foul or lead to ejection.”

NBA officials would not have to stop play to assess a flopping penalty.

After the rules became official, Fox took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

In its press release, the league said the flopping penalty will be in effect “on a one-year trial basis.”

The league tested the new rule during summer league games and the first flopping penalty was called during the California Classic. Warriors forward Lester Quinones was assessed a technical for flopping while guarding Kings guard Jordan Ford in Golden State’s 100-94 loss to Sacramento.
