Sacramento Kings Acquire Kevin Huerter From Atlanta Hawks

“We would also like to thank Maurice Harkless and Justin Holiday for their many contributions and wish them all the best in the future.”

The Sacramento Kings have acquired guard Kevin Huerter from the Atlanta Hawks in return for guard Justin Holiday, forward Moe Harkless, and a future first-round pick, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

In the deal, Sacramento is sending a 2024 lottery-protected first-round pick to the Hawks. The pick becomes top-12 protected in 2025, and top-10 protected in 2026.

Atlanta is trading Kevin Huerter to Sacramento for Justin Holiday, Mo Harkless and a future first round pick, sources tell EPSN.

Huerter, 23, is a 6’7 guard that has the ability to knockdown looks on the perimeter and create off of the dribble.

Over 74 games during the 2021-22 season, the Maryland product averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 0.7 steals per game on 45 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Following Thursday’s move to bring guard Malik Monk in on a two-year deal, the Kings have added another three-point threat to the roster in Huerter as general manager Monte McNair is making it clear that he is set on surrounding De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis with shooters.

Giving up a first-round pick in the deal definitely looks intimidating upon first look, but the pick is heavily protected, meaning that the Kings will be able to hang onto its selection if they fall short of the postseason once again in 2024.

Two days into the NBA’s free agency period, McNair has made two solid moves to shore up the rotation and give Fox two respectable options to play alongside him in the backcourt.
