Sacramento Kings to honor Rick Adelman with jersey band during 2026-27 season

The Sacramento Kings will honor one of the most influential figures in franchise history throughout the 2026-27 NBA season, paying tribute to Hall of Fame coach Rick Adelman and the lasting impact he made on the organization, the city of Sacramento, and generations of fans.

The Kings announced Monday that players will wear a commemorative black band on the upper-left shoulder of their jerseys throughout the season in recognition of Adelman’s legacy.

Adelman passed away on June 1st at the age of 79.

The Sacramento Kings today announced that players will wear a commemorative black band on the upper-left shoulder of their jerseys throughout the 2026-27 NBA season to honor Hall of Fame coach Rick Adelman, recognizing one of the most influential figures in franchise history.

The tribute commemorates Adelman’s extraordinary impact on the Kings organization, the city of Sacramento and generations of fans. From 1998 to 2006, Coach Adelman led the Kings to eight consecutive playoff appearances and a franchise-record 395 regular-season victories.

Under his leadership, the Kings became known as “The Greatest Show on Court,” capturing the heart of a city and basketball fans around the world.

“Rick Adelman’s impact on our franchise extends far beyond the court,” said Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis. “He built a culture of excellence, inspired generations of players and fans, and helped shape the identity of both our organization and our city. Wearing this commemorative band throughout the season is a meaningful way to honor his extraordinary legacy and contributions.”

Adelman’s connection to the franchise spans both his playing and coaching careers. Before leading the Kings from the sidelines, he played for the Kansas City-Omaha Kings during the 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons.
