Raynaud shines, but Kings fall to Dybantsa, Wizards in Vegas

The Sacramento Kings will not go undefeated in NBA Summer League.

After winning all three games in last week’s California Classic in Sacramento and starting off Las Vegas Summer League with a win on Thursday night, the Kings couldn’t keep up with first-overall pick AJ Dybantsa and the Washington Wizards on Sunday night, falling by a final of 104-85 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Dybantsa finished the night with 23 points (six-of-15 shooting), seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks to outshine seventh-overall pick Darius Acuff Jr., who continued to struggle when it comes to finding offensive consistency (12 points on four-of-14 shooting).

While Sacramento was unable to complete the comeback in this one, we got extended looks at multiple players who could be in head coach Doug Christie’s rotation come this fall.

Las Vegas Summer League | Kings vs. Wizards takeaways

AJ Dybantsa asserted himself early and showed why he was taken first overall in last month’s draft as the BYU product scored 17 points during the first half to help Washington open up an early double-digit lead.

Sacramento benefited from rolling out a double-big starting lineup that included shot-blocking big man Dylan Cardwell and recent rookie standout Maxime Raynaud, and both centers helped lead the Kings’ charge out of the break, trimming the deficit back into single digits.

Cardwell put on a defensive clinic in the third quarter by doing what he does best–swatting shots–to halt the Wizards’ momentum, while Raynaud showcased his expanded offensive skillset around the rim to bring Sacramento closer.

Entering his second NBA season, Raynaud continues to impress on the offensive end, causing many to wonder what he could look like alongside star center Domantas Sabonis in the Kings’ frontcourt.

Kings’ two-way forward Jonathan Mogbo continued to make his presence felt this summer, bringing plenty of energy on both sides of the ball, but standing out on the defensive end.

Mogbo, who had five blocks in a single game during last week’s California Classic at Golden 1 Center, did a bit of everything on Sunday, scoring around the rim, pulling down boards, and contesting shots to help Sacramento stay close as action entered the fourth quarter.

Nique Clifford’s burst of triples cut the Wizards’ lead to six points with less than six minutes to go, but Washington caught fire the rest of the way en route to ending the night on a 22-9 run.

While Dybantsa will be the headline in this one, Washington forward Will Riley, the 21st pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, torched the Kings’ defense all night. Riley led all scorers with 32 points (six-of-eight from deep) as Sacramento was unable to slow the Illinois product’s roll.

Acuff continued to show a lot of what we’ve seen over his first four Summer League showings–incredible craftiness, the ability to get free from his defender, and impressive court vision–but it has yet to translate to an efficient showing.

The seventh pick ended the night four-of-14 from the field and missed all four of his three-point attempts, a puzzling wrinkle to his game thus far after shooting a red-hot 44 percent from downtown during his lone season at Arkansas.

Through four games, Acuff is now shooting eight-of-31 (26%) from three-point range.

Nique Clifford had another strong showing for Sacramento, scoring 17 points (five-of-13 from the floor) to go along with four rebounds and four assists.

The offseason is underway and a lot can change between now and the start of the regular season, but Clifford has shown that he can be an option in the backup point guard spot–something that general manager Scott Perry has even alluded to as a possibility.

Clifford has made some great passes this summer, dishing out 16 assists over four games thus far while also scoring 13.5 points per contest.

Reigning All-Rookie Second Team center Maxime Raynaud suited up on Sunday for the first time with Sacramento this summer after spending time with France for the 2027 FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers.

Raynaud, the 42nd pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, averaged 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds on 66 percent shooting from the field over two appearances.

The Stanford product finished his Las Vegas debut with a team-high 20 points on seven-of-15 shooting from the field (two-of-five from deep) while also pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds.

It’s currently unclear how many more games Raynaud will appear in this summer, but it’s becoming clear that Perry found a steal at 42nd in the NBA Draft last summer.
