Report: De’Aaron Fox fractures finger, considered doubtful for Game 5

The Sacramento Kings were dealt a devastating blow on Monday as it was reported that De'Aaron Fox has a fractured index finger.

The Sacramento Kings were dealt a devastating blow on Monday afternoon when it was revealed that star guard De’Aaron Fox has suffered a fractured index finger on his left shooting hand.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Fox is believed to have sustained the injury midway through the fourth quarter of Sunday’s Game 4 loss to the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco.

Fox will be listed as doubtful for Wednesday’s Game 5, which will occur at Golden 1 Center.

While the news of Fox’s finger is disheartening for a Kings fanbase that has waited 16 seasons to watch its team return to the NBA Playoffs, there is some hope that the star guard will play in Game 5.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that De’Aaron Fox might try to play through the injury on Wednesday using a protective covering on his injured finger. The injury is said to be Fox’s “very tip” of his index finger, but more information will not become available until Sacramento’s next media availability on Tuesday.

It appears that Fox’s injury occurred with 4:35 remaining in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, with the All-Star guard taking a hit to his hand from Warriors center Kevon Looney in-between plays.

Fox went on to finish the game with 38 points on 14-of-31 shooting from the field to go along with nine rebounds and five assists.

The star guard is averaging 31.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range during the first four games of this hard-fought playoff series against the defending champions.

Fox played the final four minutes of Sunday’s game with the injury and looked unbothered, scoring seven points to help give Sacramento a chance at pulling out a win.

The Kings fell short, and now there’s a possibility that they will have to play a crucial Game 5 without its leader. More information on Fox’s status will likely become available during the team’s practice session on Tuesday.
