On a night that saw him play through a fractured left index finger, De’Aaron Fox started Wednesday’s Game 5 matchup against the Golden State Warriors on a high note.
The Sacramento Kings guard scored 17 points on three-of-seven shooting from three-point range during the first half, but Fox struggled down the stretch, scoring just seven points on three-of-12 shooting during the final two quarters.
Golden State did an excellent job defending the Clutch Player of the Year award winner, as Fox went 0-of-six from the field during the fourth quarter. The Warriors converted some big shots late to lift themselves to a 123-117 win and a 3-2 series lead.
“I was fine,” Fox said of how he felt while playing through a broken left index finger. “Second half, I have to play better, personally.”
Sacramento is now staring elimination in the face as they will have to beat the defending champions two-straight times this weekend to extend what has been a memorable season.
“We know that our backs are against the wall,” Fox said. “You know that it’s a tough place to go in and win. You go out there and you try to win a game. One loss, and your season is over, but we’re thinking about it one game at a time.”
