Report: Kuminga declining Warriors offers, more interested in Kings & Suns

We may be on the verge of entering August, but the Jonathan Kuminga saga appears to be far from over.

Following weeks of reports that indicated the restricted free agent forward was in talks with multiple teams on potential deals, ESPN published an extensive update on the ongoing rift between Kuminga and his most recent employer, the Golden State Warriors.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater, the Warriors made another push this week to retain the former seventh-overall pick, but Kuminga rebuffed an offer of $45 million over two years.

A main sticking point in those talks, per Charania and Slater, was the fact that the second year of that proposal was a team option. Golden State was also unwilling to maintain the no-trade clause that would be included in the deal.

Jonathan Kuminga had a falling out with the Warriors during the 2024-25 season, which is why the 22-year-old appears to be more keen on accepting an offer outside of the Bay Area.

The issue with Kuminga moving on from the Warriors is his status as a restricted free agent, and that he’s reportedly in the market for a contract worth $25-30 million per season.

While Golden State has provided Kuminga with offers that are below his liking, Charania and Slater report that the 6’8 forward has received offers of up to $90 million over four years during negotiations with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, with Phoenix having made ‘the most lucrative’ push thus far.

Kuminga prefers a fresh start, meaning that landing with the Kings or Suns would be the preferred end-scenario, but the Warriors have shown that they have no interest in taking back what Sacramento and Phoenix are offering in sign-and-trade discussions.

Golden State has turned down a few offers from the Kings in sign-and-trade talks for Kuminga, most notably a deal that would have sent Devin Carter, Dario Saric, and a protected first-round pick to Golden State. The Athletic’s Sam Amick also reported this week that the Warriors have no interest in taking back veteran scorer DeMar DeRozan in talks for Kuminga.

Forward Keegan Murray and guard Keon Ellis have been players Golden State has shown interest in acquiring in a potential deal for Kuminga, but the Kings have no interest in moving either player this summer, according to a league source.

As talks with Sacramento, Phoenix, and Kuminga himself continue to stall, Charania and Slater report that Golden State is prepared to cut off sign-and-trade discussions, giving the forward two options: accept the qualifying offer for one year and $7.9 million, or take the two-year, $45 million deal.
